Teen/Campus Place 5th in “Joe Weinberg Memorial Football Tournament”

2 Timothy 2:3-7—Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs—he wants to please his commanding officer. 5Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules. 6The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. 7Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.

Metro L.A. PlayersTogether with the Campus, the Metro L.A. Teens competed in the Joe Weinberg Memorial Football Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 31 at Cal Poly Pomona where they placed fifth out of nine other teams.

In their first game, they lost to San Diego 6 - 0 in a highly competitive game. Then the teen/campus team played the East region and won 24 to 6.

In their last game they lost to the Central Region who place fourth. Orange County took first place and took home the trophy.

This year's tournament was named in memory of our beloved brother, Joe Weinberg who left for heaven on Dec 15, 2008.

Teens at El Segundo BuildingSomehow, here in our motto, the five F's, Faith, Fun, Fellowship, Family and Fruit, it seems we missed the sixth F, Food as the teens came together for their last Friday night devotional at the El Segundo building where the teens watched a movie, ate some food and had a great time together.

South Cities and Metro View ministries have moved to a new location on Prairie  and Marine Avenue in Hawthorne. They will be meeting for the first time at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Jan 18.

Nick AndersonPsalm 133:1—How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!

Living in unity and each person working together as parts of the body work for the body would sum up what Coach Nick Anderson, Campus Sherperd, spoke to the Metro L.A. Teen/Campus football team as they came together for their first practice of the season at Alondra Park on Saturday, Jan 10.

Coach Nick Anderson, Campus Shepherd

The team is preparing for the Teen/Campus Football Tournament coming up on Jan. 31 at Cal state Pomona. There are two more practices, Saturday, Jan 17 and 24 at Alondra Park beginning at 10 a.m.

Last year the team, coached by Joe Weinberg, played hard in the pouring rain and although they did not win, they had an incredible time of fun. Contact your teen or campus leader for more information.

Joe Weinberg Remembered

Joe and Marva WeinbergRegretfully, Monday, Dec. 15 at 5:25 AM, our brother, Joe Weinberg, passed away at age 41 after a twelve year battle with cancer.
Joe, his wife Marva and their son Miles moved to Los Angeles two years ago to serve as ministers in the Metro LA Region. He is with God now and we are grateful that God allowed Joe enough time for Joe, Marva and Miles to become part of our Los Angeles Church family. Our prayers continue to be with Marva and Miles in this difficult time.

A memorial service took place on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center in the James Armstrong Theater.

It was a time to celebrate the life of Joe, a man dearly loved by many.
